Before You Book a Boudoir Session
Boudoir photography is a style of intimate portrait photography that can range from soft and romantic to glamorous, dramatic or sensual. At Amanda Marquis Photography, Boudoir is a fully guided portrait experience rather than simply taking revealing photographs. Your session includes planning, professional hair and makeup, wardrobe guidance, posing direction, professional photography and a same-day image reveal. How much or how little you wear is your decision.
No. Most Boudoir clients are not professional models. You are not expected to arrive knowing your angles, poses or expressions. Amanda directs you throughout the photography session so you know what to do with your hands, shoulders, hips, legs, posture and facial expression.
Start by asking yourself whether you want the experience. You do not need a particular body type, relationship status, age or confidence level. Some clients book Boudoir for themselves. Others book for a wedding, anniversary, birthday or milestone. Some simply want professional photographs unlike anything they have ever had before. A consultation is the best way to ask questions before deciding whether the experience feels right for you.
That depends on what the experience and photographs are worth to you. Professional Boudoir is more than camera time. It includes preparation, styling, posing direction, professional photography, image curation and the experience of being photographed intentionally. Body Confidence, Size & Age
No. There is no weight requirement for Boudoir photography. Amanda photographs clients across a wide range of sizes and body types and guides posing, wardrobe, lighting and expression throughout every session. Waiting for a particular number on the scale is not a requirement for being photographed.
Yes. Plus-size and curvy clients are part of Amanda Marquis Photography's regular Boudoir work. Amanda's current client wardrobe includes sizing from XXS through 6XL, and the website includes a dedicated Plus Size Boudoir page with additional information about posing, wardrobe and representation.
Tell Amanda. You are allowed to have insecurities. You do not have to walk into the studio pretending you love every part of your body. Amanda uses posing, posture, wardrobe, camera position, lighting and movement intentionally throughout your session. The goal is not to hide or “fix” you. The goal is to photograph you thoughtfully and professionally.
No. Boudoir does not have an upper age limit. Clients choose Boudoir at many different stages of life, including milestone birthdays, anniversaries, new chapters and simply because they want the experience. You do not age out of being photographed.
That is more common than you might think. Professional portrait photography is different from a phone snapshot. Amanda controls the lighting, lens, camera position, posing, composition and expression while guiding you throughout the session. You are not expected to already know how to photograph yourself well.
What to Wear for Boudoir Photography
There is no required Boudoir outfit. Depending on your personal style, you might choose bodysuits, bra and panty sets, robes, stockings, oversized sweaters, button-down shirts, heels, jewelry, sheets or meaningful personal pieces. Amanda helps you plan wardrobe before and during the session.
No. Lingerie is an option, not a requirement. Boudoir can be created with bodysuits, robes, sweaters, oversized shirts, sheets or more covered wardrobe choices. Your level of coverage should reflect your comfort level and the type of images you want to create.
Amanda currently provides access to a client closet with wardrobe options ranging from XXS through 6XL. Clients can also bring their own favorite pieces from home. Wardrobe planning is part of the preparation process.
Your session includes wardrobe planning and allows for multiple outfit changes. Amanda will help you plan what to bring and how to use the client wardrobe before your session. A fixed number of looks is not published, so the exact wardrobe plan can be discussed during your preparation.
Professional Hair & Makeup
Yes. Professional hair and makeup are currently included in Amanda Marquis Photography's Boudoir session fee and take place in the studio before the photography session begins.
No. Professional makeup does not have to mean dramatic makeup. Talk with Amanda about the style you want so your finished look can feel soft, natural, glamorous, dramatic or somewhere in between.
Posing & What Happens During the Photoshoot
Yes. Amanda provides posing direction throughout the photography session. She guides posture, hands, shoulders, hips, legs, feet, facial expression, eye direction and movement. You are never expected to stand in front of the camera and invent poses on your own.
Feeling awkward at first is normal. You are doing something unfamiliar. Amanda keeps the session moving with specific direction rather than leaving you to figure out what to do. As clients become familiar with the process and posing, the session generally becomes more comfortable.
Amanda Marquis Photography's current photography session is approximately 90 minutes. Your total studio experience is longer because professional hair and makeup, wardrobe preparation and the image reveal happen in addition to the photography portion.
After professional glam and wardrobe preparation, Amanda guides you through a series of poses, expressions and looks during approximately 90 minutes of photography. You may change wardrobe and move through different sets or visual styles depending on the session plan. Afterward, you have your same-day image reveal.

Do not assume that client photographs are automatically available for public use. Amanda follows the studio's current image-sharing authorization and privacy process. Discuss your privacy preferences during your consultation and review the studio's current agreement before your session.

Guests & Your Studio Experience
Amanda's current studio policy allows a supportive female guest age 18 or older to accompany you as your hype person. Partners may currently be present during hair and makeup and may return for the reveal, but significant others are not present during the photography portion of the session. If studio policy changes, this answer will be updated to match the current policy.

Amanda currently recommends booking approximately 6 to 8 weeks before the date you need finished products. Additional time may be helpful during busy seasons such as the holidays.
Yes. Clients book Boudoir for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, major life changes and personal milestones. You do not need a special occasion to schedule a session.
