Crystal’s Story
This month, I’m featuring an extremely special woman, who I’ve had the pleasure of photographing twice! Crystal is the mother of five children (ages 1-12), two dogs and several farm animals. I first met Crystal in 2019 when she signed up for a promotion I was running. At that time, we worked hard to get her into the studio as she was gearing up for gallbladder surgery and was 20 weeks pregnant with her now one year old! By trade Crystal is a truck driver, but is now working toward her pilot’s license. She’s not quite sure if she wants to make a career change at this stage of her life, but she “loves driving and flying!”
Crystal expressed to me she had some nervous jitters before her first shoot. Being naked in front of a stranger? What?! She just lost 180 pounds, and was feeling self-conscious about her new body and some excess skin. But she told me that I, “was able to relate to [her] fears, help [her] through some flaws and work through everything” with her. Before coming to my studio she had done boudoir sessions with other photographers, but in my studio she felt a great deal of comfort. She explained, ”the way she bubbles and just overflows with happiness is non-comparable.” I want every woman who walks into my studio to be at ease in what can be an uncomfortable situation. I know that stripping down in front of a stranger is outside of most women’s comfort zones, so I know how important it is to make this a fun experience, so we can capture the best version of you!
Crystal was so excited about her first session and the photos we took, that she purchased an album for her boyfriend, and a framed image for him as well! I wish I could have been there to see his face when he saw how gorgeous she looked!
Fast forward a year and Crystal booked her second session with me. By this time she was an old pro! Between her first and second session, Crystal got a circumferential tummy tuck, lost even more weight and gave birth to her fifth child! She told me on the day of her session that she was “ready to roll.” Goodbye, nervous jitters! Hello, new poses! We tried poses that both hid her tummy tuck scar and revealed it, because boudoir emboldens you to showcase every part of you, even things you may consider to be flaws. Like with many women, her second session was easier to show up for. I become more than a photographer to many of the women who have sessions with me, and when you return to the studio, you are coming as a friend.
After the second session she was so thrilled to see her pictures, and even collaged some with the previous shoot. It was amazing to see her transformation physically, but what really matters most is the mental transformation I watched her go through in the time I’ve known her. She plans to make her photo sessions a yearly investment in herself—what an amazing way to celebrate everything you accomplish!
