Sarah's Session

My client, Sarah, was like so many of my clients when she walked into my studio. With her daily life, as a hairstylist and make-up artist, being so busy, and parenting her two children, she barely has time to do the necessary daily tasks. And then, of course, her self-care gets pushed aside because really, who has time for yourself when you’re looking after literally everyone else in your life?

But like me, she has the opportunity within her job to make women feel beautiful when they look in the mirror. Like me, she listens to woman after woman list the things they dislike about their appearance. And like me, she has made it her mission to make them feel beautiful without having to transform anything about themselves. Her mission is a powerful one and is just one reason why I wanted to make her feel like she makes her own clients feel when they look at their reflections.

Sarah works alongside me in my studio as one of my hair and make-up artists, and because she’s watched how boudoir can transform a woman’s view of herself, she decided to try it herself in an effort to transform her self-esteem.

Like many other women, she was nervous before her session, thinking about whether or not she was wearing the right outfit, doing the right poses, etc. She was wondering if this whole experience would just be embarrassing. To ease her nerves, we talked at length about my outfits for the session, and I reassured her that her choices were flattering and would photograph well. During the shoot, I helped her pose her body to make her feel and look sexy, and Sarah expressed to me that she had way more fun than she ever thought was possible.

Sarah was especially astonished by her pictures in the photo reveal, feeling, as she described, “major shock” when she got her first look at them. She’s had two c-sections, nursed both of her children for over a year each, AND has an abdominal hysterectomy. In her pictures, you couldn’t even tell what her body has endured! Like many of my clients, she thought her pictures could never look like the beautiful women she saw in other photos. But there she was, looking at unedited images of herself and thinking about how beautiful she was.

After her session, Sarah realized how important it is to invest in yourself, to feel beautiful and sexy, and let it all hang out. She was completely liberated and much closer to being her badass self.

Sarah is, in my opinion, a powerful, gorgeous woman. She is determined, authentic, and stands true in what she believes in. It’s a pleasure to work alongside her, and it was also a pleasure to photograph her!
